I’ll Fly Away: Our Future Healing

In the past few months, my church family has faced serious physical illness. Two key members of my congregation have been diagnosed with cancer. My pastor’s wife, Mrs. Linda, and our choir leader, Mr. Kenny. Both of these people have been amazing examples of Godliness to me. But even more than that, I have been amazed by their response to the battle with cancer they are now facing. They truly desire only that God be glorified and their lives be a testimony to others of the security and salvation found in Christ.

A few Sundays ago, I came across the hymn I’ll Fly Away in the hymnal. I’ve always loved this song and I thought it would be fun to do a new rendition of it. One sleepless night and sixteen hours later, I finished recording the song below.

During the recording of the song, I noticed how much the words resonate with the situation my brother and sister are facing. We all will battle illness in this life, but we can all look forward to the day when we will fly away with Christ and receive true healing, healing that washes away sin and allows us to worship God for all eternity.

Steady Pace

The Lord has given me a passion for music. I love to create through the organization of words and pitches to form a cohesive emotional and intellectual message. I am often so frustrated by my attempts to create. It seems the chords are not quite right, the lyrics don’t fit, or it simply isn’t what it could be. I find myself often holding myself to too high a standard.

One of my musical heroes once said “sometimes, you can only write a songs to yourself”. The more time I spend with a pen and paper in hand, the more I am persuaded of this. Sometimes the most excellent of songs come from an honest confession of truth. And that is what this song is, a confession.

In the past few months, God has been dealing with my heart. He has shown me how anxious I am, how little trust I have in Him. I find myself staying awake at night, asking questions about my future.

What will I do? Where will I go? What if it comes to that? Where will I work? Will I be ready for this responsibility?

God not only has a plan, He has The Plan, and the central theme of it is His glory. The Lord created this earth and all within it for His glory, alone. He will use my life to that end, no questions asked. And that is something that I can rely on everyday, one breath at a time,

In one steady pace.

Philippians 4:4-6 “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time todie;a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to cast away stones, and a time togather stones together;a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace.”

Steady Pace
by Mark Minyard

Chorus
Everyday a steady pace, take this one step at a time
Fight these battles in my life, fight these battles in my mind
While I walk on down this road, taking one step at a time
May my life firstly show, what it means to love

Verse
Life is not one collection of parties and celebrations
Bothered by spaces of time in between
The slow times are where the heroes are found

So keep my mind in this time,
Focused on the task at hand
I’ll reach my dreams with these small steps

Though I become impatient
When thinking coming times
May the crux of my life be Jesus

Chorus
Everyday a steady pace, take this one step at a time
Fight these battles in my life, fight these battles in my mind
While I walk on down this road, taking one step at a time
May my life firstly show, what it means to love

Verse 2
There is a time for all
Things in this mortal world
From war to love to life and death

I’ll fight for what I believe,
Love everlastingly
Live passionately
Die peacefully

Jesus will complete me

Chorus
Everyday a steady pace, take this one step at a time
Fight these battles in my life, fight these battles in my mind
While I walk on down this road, taking one step at a time
May my life firstly show, what it means to love

What it means to love,

to love.

mp3 to come.
